TREATMENT IN TURKEY
Cancer treatment in Turkey: start with the diagnosis and the clinical question
Cancer treatment may involve surgery, systemic therapy, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine or a combination of approaches. The safest way to compare options is to start from the confirmed diagnosis, stage, pathology and previous treatments — then identify the right team.
Medical decisions are made by the evaluating physicians and hospitals. MEDITRAVEL coordinates access and communication.

What a useful hospital review should answer
Is the diagnosis complete?
Pathology, stage and relevant molecular markers should be clear enough to support a treatment decision.
What is the treatment objective?
Curative, disease control, symptom relief or another goal — the objective changes how options are compared.
Which specialty should lead?
The key physician may be a cancer surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist or another disease-specific specialist.
What happens next?
Ask for the proposed sequence, additional tests, expected timeline and an itemised cost estimate when possible.
Explore treatment options
Technology is useful only when it matches a clinical indication.
Cancer surgery
Open, laparoscopic or robotic surgery depending on the disease and the surgeon.
Immunotherapy & targeted therapy
Systemic treatment may depend on biomarkers, approvals and previous lines.
Radiotherapy & radiosurgery
Modern techniques include IMRT/VMAT, stereotactic treatment and MRI-guided radiotherapy.
Nuclear medicine
Imaging and radioligand therapies can be relevant in selected cancers.
Liquid biopsy & NGS
Molecular tests may help answer specific treatment questions but do not automatically replace tissue pathology.
Before travelling
01
Collect the core records
Pathology, medical reports, imaging reports, treatment history and recent laboratory results.
02
Send original imaging when needed
For surgery, radiotherapy and complex reviews, DICOM images may be requested in addition to written reports.
03
Request a written answer
Ask what the hospital recommends, what must be repeated locally, the expected schedule and estimated cost.
04
Travel after the plan is clear
Some details can still change after an in-person examination, but a pre-travel review reduces avoidable uncertainty.
Frequently asked questions
Practical answers for international patients.
Do I need to choose the hospital before sending my records?
No. It is often better to start from the diagnosis and clinical question, then identify centres with relevant expertise.
Can a hospital give the final plan only from documents?
Sometimes a preliminary plan is possible. The final recommendation may require an examination, pathology review or additional imaging.
